  • Recognized as one of CBC Music’s 2024 “30 Canadian Classical Musicians Under 30”, violist Carolyn Farnand is known for her love of collaboration and versatility performing in diverse musical styles. She recently joined the Nu Deco Ensemble for their major-label debut EP Duende on Sony Music Masterworks. Carolyn’s passion for new music has also brought her to the prestigious Lucerne Festival in Switzerland. In addition to contemporary music, Carolyn has a deep appreciation for early music. She has been featured as a soloist with Les Violons du Roy and joined Juilliard415 for a memorable three week performance tour in New Zealand.

    Carolyn is a graduate of the New World Symphony, the Juilliard School and the University of Toronto, and was a Temerty fellow while completing her Artist Diploma at the Glenn Gould School. She is thankful for the inspiration from her teachers: Carol Rodland, Toby Appel, Steven Dann, Cynthia Roberts and Eric Nowlin.

    Carolyn has enjoyed participating in music festivals all over the world including Music & Beyond, Aspen Music Festival, Schleswig-Holstein Festival, Scotia Festival, Domaine Forget Festival, and the National Youth Orchestra of Canada.

    Carolyn holds the assistant principal viola chair with Symphony Nova Scotia and will serve as acting principal violist this upcoming season. She looks forward to chamber music performances for Candlelight Concerts, Sensory-Accessible Cecilia Concerts, the Amati Concert Series and the Music Room Chamber Players Series. As a recipient of the 2024 Women for Music Professional Development award, Carolyn is grateful for the continued support in her artistic growth.

We’re closing out the season with our annual season-closer guest artist collaboration! We’re so excited to welcome Carolyn Farnand, Symphony Nova Scotia’s new Assistant Principal Violist, and CBC Music’s 2024 “30 Canadian Classical Musicians Under 30.” We’ll be playing the beautiful Viola Quintet No. 2 by Johannes Brahms, and we’ll be including a few other surprises in the evening.

Nous concluons la saison avec notre collaboration annuelle d'artistes invités ! Nous sommes ravis d'accueillir Carolyn Farnand, la nouvelle altiste principale adjointe de la Symphony Nova Scotia et l'une des “30 musiciens classiques canadiens de moins de 30 ans” de CBC Music pour l'année 2024.  Nous jouerons le magnifique Quintette pour alto no 2 de Johannes Brahms, et nous inclurons quelques autres surprises au cours de la soirée.
